Lady Owls Close Season With a Loss

KSU falls to No. 14 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Ashley Holliday led all scorers with 17 points, including 14 in the second half, as the Kennesaw State women's basketball team fell in its season finale, 98-52, to No. 14 North Carolina.

As was a trend throughout the season, the Lady Owls got out to a slow start, falling behind 13-0 bfore a 3-pointer by Holliday got KSu on the scoreboard.  KSU would keep it close over most of the rest of the opening 20 minutes, trailing just 30-17 after a pair of Angie Smith free-throws.  However, the Tar Heels (26-8) would stretch their lead up to 25 points, 52-27, after the first 20 minutes of play.

KSU trailed, 54-27, early in the second half, but Holliday went on a scoring binge, pouring in three straight 3-pointers to spur a 9-0 KSU run.  The 18-point deficit would prove to be the closest the Lady Owls would get in the second half as UNC outscored the Lady Owls, 46-25, in the second half.

Chelcey Farrar tied for game-high rebounding honors with 10.  The sophomore also tied for game-high honors with four steals.  Smith and Lisa Capellan each had five assists, with Capellan scoring nine points.

All 12 players who saw action for UNC Sunday scored, with five notching double-figure totals.  Jessica Breland, Waltiea Rolle and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt all scored 13 points to lead UNC in scoring.

KSU finishes the season with a 9-21 record.
