KSU travels to face North Carolina

3/12/2011 11:22:46 AM

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will bring the curtain down on the 2010-11 season as it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on No. 14 North Carolina.  Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.

The Lady Owls (9-20) haven't played since bowing out in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship Mar. 2.  KSU would fall that night, 65-47, to eventual A-Sun champion Stetson.  Sametria Gideon scored a team-high 13 points while pulling down eight rebounds.  Freshman Elaina Gray had nine rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, in the loss for KSU.

The Lady Owls have played three Atlantic Coast Conference teams this season, but none since the first nine days of the season.  Nov. 12, the opening day of the season, the Lady Owls fell at co-ACC regular season champion Miami, 93-39.  Five days later, KSU fell to cross-town rival and ACC Tournament semifinalist Georgia Tech, 79-60.  Nov. 21, the Lady Owls lost at Clemson, 68-57.

North Carolina (25-8) is ranked No. 14 in both the Associated Press and the ESPN/USA Today polls.  The Tar Heels were able to shake off four straight ACC losses late in the season to win three straight in the ACC Tournament to reach the finals.  This will be the third A-Sun team that the Tar Heels have played this season.  UNC opened the year with a win over North Florida, 110-41, then defeated East Tennessee State Dec. 8, 87-47.

The two teams have played in each of the last two seasons.  Nov. 17, 2008, the Lady Owls fell at UNC, 102-68.  The following season, UNC topped KSU, 89-44.
