KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team will be playing its Atlantic Sun Conference home opener this weekend as it will compete in two crucial conference matches against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson starting on Friday.
The Owls got off to a good start in conference play last weekend as they cruised past Belmont and Lipscomb to move to 2-0 in the A-Sun for the first time in program history.
“Every match is important throughout the season, especially conference matches,” head coach Jeffery Kutac said. “We need to continue to improve so we can make a steady push as we get into the thick of A-Sun play.”
Sophomore Therese Lagerkvist will be putting her A-Sun singles winning streak on the line the weekend as she has won eight straight matches in conference play dating back to last season. Senior Agatha Palider will also be looking to achieve a career milestone this weekend as her next singles victory will be the 50th of her career.
Kennesaw State has all-time records of 1-2 against Florida Gulf Coast, and 0-4 against Stetson.
Florida Gulf Coast enters this weekend with a record of 4-4 (1-2 A-Sun), and they were picked to finish fourth in the A-Sun Preseason Poll. Stetson comes into the weekend with a mark of 9-1 (2-1 A-Sun) with its lone loss coming against Campbell on Mar. 5. The Hatters were picked to finish third in the A-Sun Preseason Poll.
The match against Florida Gulf Coast on Friday is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. , while the Owls match against Stetson on Saturday is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. Both matches will be played at Laurel Park Tennis Center.
