KENNESAW, Ga. – A record number of participants arrived at Kennesaw State to take part in the 3rd Annual Owls Making Strides 5K Race for breast cancer awareness as the event raised more than $3,500 dollars for the American Cancer Society, a record for the three-year event.

The race, which took place prior to the Lady Owls women’s basketball game against Belmont, drew the largest number of runners to date in the brief history, nearly 400, and almost tripled the amount of runners from the 2009 inaugural event.

This year, runners and walkers participated in six age groups ranging from 19-and-under through 60-and-older and included breast cancer survivors, family members, friends as well as Kennesaw State faculty and students.

“We couldn’t be happier with the event,” said Lauren Katovsky, Kennesaw State Director of Athletic Marketing. “The race was an overwhelming success and the number of participants exceeded our expectations. Plus, we couldn’t be more pleased with the support we received from the local businesses, community and volunteers.”

Following the race, the participants were treated free massages by The Wellpath Center and lunch courtesy of Zucca Pizzeria of Kennesaw. In addition, all participants received tickets to the women’s basketball game against Belmont.
