KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's tennis team tasted defeat for the first time this season losing to Georgia Southern, 7-0, on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the Laurel Park Tennis Center.
The loss drops Kennesaw State to 2-1 for the year, while the win improves Georgia Southern to 2-1 on the season.
The Owls struggled early dropping all three doubles matches to fall behind in the match, 1-0.
In singles play, the previously undefeated
Simon Janik couldn't overcome a nagging abdominal injury as he fell in straight sets at the No. 1 spot to Georgia Southern's Juan Puigventos, 6-2, 6-1.
The match of the day came at the No. 5 singles spot as freshman
Ryan Spencer got ahead early on Edio Castanhel taking the first set 6-1. However, the Texas native couldn't keep the momentum going as he fell in the second set 6-3, and then lost in a super tiebreaker, 10-7.
Kennesaw State will step back out onto the court on Friday, Feb. 11 as they will play two matches in Young Harris, Ga. The Owls will play Young Harris at 10 a.m. and Presbyterian at 1 p.m.
