Owls Look to Move to 3-0 on Sunday Against Georgia Southern

Match will be first-ever meeting between the two schools

2/4/2011 6:23:33 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team looks to continue their hot start as they get ready for their 2011 home opener against in-state rival Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon.

The Owls are coming off an impressive weekend as they lost only one match on their way to a 2-0 start to the season. The Black and Gold took down Xavier of Louisiana 9-0 in their season opener on Jan. 28, and then beat Jackson State by a score of 6-1 on Jan. 29.

"They are a strong team, and this will be a good litmus test for our Atlantic Sun Conference competition.," head coach T.J. Greggs said. "I feel like this is a match that could go either way, so it's going to come down to which team wants it more.  This should be our first stiff test of the spring season, and I am confident we can go out there and pull out another win if we stay focused and stick to our game plans."

Kennesaw State has been led by the excellent play of junior Simon Janik who was yet to lose a match this season. Even more impressive is that that Janik has done all his damage from the No. 1 singles and doubles spots this year. The Ontario native has won five of his last six doubles matches at the No. 1 position dating back to last season.

This match will mark the first ever meeting between Kennesaw State and Georgia Southern. The Eagles are 1-0 on the season as they beat Fort Valley State, 7-0, in their season opener on Jan. 28.

Sunday’s match will be played at the Laurel Park Tennis Center in Marietta, Ga. and it is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
