KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior Matt Nagy will be competing in the Jones Cup Invitational Friday February 4-6, on the legendary Sea Island. Competing for the second consecutive year, Nagy looks to improve on his sixth place finish in 2010.

“I am really looking forward to competing this week and I am glad to be going back to the Jones Cup,” Nagy said. “It is a great course, amazing field, and wonderful atmosphere. Hopefully this year I will be able to come out on top of this prestigious event.”

The 54-hole individual stroke-play event is played at the Ocean Forest Golf Club. The Rees Jones design opened in 1995 and has hosted the 1998 Georgia State Amateur Championship, the 1999 Southern Amateur Championship and the 2001 Walker Cup Match.

This years Jones Cup brings together many of the best amateurs from the United States and abroad for this three-day competition. Invitations are granted at the discretion of the Jones Cup committee and this years committee has selected 90 of the best amateurs in the world, including 26 of the top-100 World ranked amateurs and five of the top-10.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Matt to once again play in the Jones Cup.  It is regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the world and the field this year is arguably the best collection of amateur golfers ever assembled,” Head Coach Jay Moseley said. “This will be another great experience for Matt to compete at a high level on a championship course.  We wish him the best of luck."

Nagy is set to tee off at 9:10 Friday morning. He will be paired with Rhys Pugh of Wales and former Florida State Seminole Michael Hebert. For live stats and coverage you can visit Golfstat.com.

Junior Jeff Karlsson, who all received an invitation to compete, has withdrawn from the tournament due to illness.
