KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team will hit the road for its last non-conference tune-up before conference play begins as it will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Friday afternoon.
The Black and Gold are 0-1 all-time against the Blazers, but they are riding a great deal of momentum heading into Friday’s match. Junior
Vera Shkundina is a big reason why as she was just recently named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, and she has won 14 of her last 15 overall singles matches dating back to last season.
Senior
Agatha Palider has also been a consistent force for the Owls this season as she has already recorded a combined 15 wins, including a 5-1 record at the No. 4 singles spot.
UAB comes into this match with a 1-3 overall record. The Blazers have already played two schools from the A-Sun this season beating Belmont, 6-0, but falling to North Florida, 4-3.
The matchup that everyone will be watching will be at the No. 3 singles position. Freshman
Alexandra Apostu looks to extend her A-Sun leading 17-match winning streak against junior Paula Alvarez, who is 2-0 in singles against A-Sun opponents this season.
Kennesaw State looks to stay undefeated against teams from the Yellowhammer State as it has beaten Alabama State, Alabama A&M and Jacksonville State so far this season.
This match is serving as a make up as the Owls and Blazers were originally scheduled to play on Feb. 4, but were canceled due to weather conditions.
First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. central time.
