2/23/2011 10:58:58 AM

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Kennesaw State will hit the road for the first time this season as they play Jacksonville State on Wednesday afternoon in the Gamecocks home opener at Rudy Abbott Field.  Live audio will be available at 3:50 p.m. by clicking here.

The Owls (4-0) are in the midst of their best start since becoming a Division I member and their four-game winning streak to begin the season is the longest since 2003, when they won 11 straight games.

Jacksonville State (0-1) won the Ohio Valley Conference tournament last season and was picked as the favorites to win the conference this season according to the 2011 preseason conference poll. The Gamecocks dropped their opener last night, falling at No. 23-ranked Auburn.

Since joining the OVC in 2004, Jacksonville State has won three conference championships and in addition, the Gamecocks have done well against the Owls, winning nine out of 15 meetings with the Black and Gold including a sweep of Kennesaw State last season.

Kennesaw State will start junior right-hander Sean Fream on Wednesday. The Woodstock, Ga. will be making his first start of the season and the seventh of his career against a Jacksonville State squad that has scored 17 runs in each of the last two meetings with KSU at Abbott Field.

Ronnie Freeman leads the Owls with a nation’s best 33-game hitting streak. The sophomore catcher extended his streak with an RBI-single in last nights win over UAB at Stillwell Stadium. Freeman is tied with Chris Baker of Old Dominion for the nation’s longest hitting streak.

Junior Andy Chriscaden has jumped out of the blocks for the Owls. The first baseman has hit safely in each game this season and leads the Owls with three multi-hit games as he enters Wednesday with a .412 batting average.

First-pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and can be heard live at www.ksuowls.com with Mark Toma calling the action beginning with the pregame show at 3:50 p.m.
