SORRENTO, Fla. – Sophomore Ket Preamchuen finished tied for fifth at the UCF Challenge on Tuesday, making it her third consecutive top-five finish. Her performance at the RedTail Golf Club helped lead the Black and Gold to 13th in the team standings.
"Today was a tough day, we are very disappointed with our overall finish, but as always we will learn from our mistakes and look ahead to our next tournament," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said.
Preamchuen posted a 68-72-75/215, -1 over the three-day 54-hole event. Freshman Hayley Clinning was the next lowest finisher for the Owls, as the New Zealand native continued her great rookie season, finishing T-16th after carding a 73-70-76/219, +3.
"Ket and Hayley's play this week was outstanding, and I am very excited for that play to continue this spring," Brinsmead said.
Sophomore Molly Winnett finished T-58th, posting a 75-80-78/233, +17. Senior Abby Fitzgerald turned in a score of 76-79-84/239, +23, while Chelcia Peterson posted a 77-80-85/242, +26.
The Owls score regressed each day as the Owls fell from eighth place after rounds one and two.
Coastal Carolina won the team title with a score of 867, +3. Trailing the Chanticleers in second place was Tulane, 868, +4, and Minnesota in third with a score of 869, +5.
The individual title was given to co-medalist Teresa Puga of Minnesota and Ashleigh Albrecht of Kentucky, after both finished with a score of 208, -8. Ashley McKenney of Tulane finished third with a score of 209, -7, and Jessica Alexander of CCU finished fourth, carding a 212, -4.
The Owls will return to action in two weeks, as the team will host the Kinderlou Forest Challenge, Feb. 27 – March 1 at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.
