Kennesaw State Looks to Stay Undefeated

Owls look to move to 7-0 on the season when they visit the Gamecocks

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team will look to stretch its season-opening winning streak to seven matches on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Jacksonville, Ala. to take on Jacksonville State in their final road match before their 2011 home opener on Friday.

The Owls are coming off another impressive weekend as they only lost a total of three matches on their way to picking up four more wins to move to 6-0 on the season.

Head Coach Jeffery Kutac has been pleased with this team's start, but he knows Tuesday will be a tough matchup for his team.

"I am very pleased that we have gotten off to this good start as a team, but we need to keep working hard to sustain this success," coach Kutac said. "With that being said we have our toughest test to date in Jacksonville State on Tuesday so we need to have a good practice today to prepare for a difficult opponent."

Freshman Alexandra Apostu will once again be putting her impressive winning streak on the line as she has now won 10 straight matches to begin her collegiate career.

Another great sign so far for Kennesaw State this season has been their doubles play. The Owls have only lost three doubles matches all season to give them a .833 winning percentage, which is a significant improvement compared to their .400 doubles winning percentage last season. A big reason for the doubles improvement has been the doubles team of senior Agatha Palider and sophomore Therese Lagerkvist. They have won four straight matches at the No. 2 position, and are 4-1 on the season.

Kennesaw State is also one of five undefeated teams left in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Tuesday’s opponent will be a good test for the Black and Gold as Jacksonville State is the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Champions, and they were selected second in the 2011 OVC Preseason Poll.  The Gamecocks are 2-1 heading into Tuesday’s matchup.

The Owls have never beaten Jacksonville State as they are 0-3 all-time against them.

The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. eastern time, 2 p.m. central time.
