KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will try to return to its winning ways on Monday night when it takes on Atlantic Sun Conference leading Florida Gulf Coast. Tipoff on Valentine's Night is set for 7 p.m. at the KSU Convocation Center.
The Lady Owls (7-16, 4-11) have lost the past two games in a row, but have had a pair of great individual efforts from sophomore forward Sametria Gideon. The Madison, Ala., native scored 19 points and grabbed a career-best 20 rebounds in an overtime loss last Thursday at Mercer. Against Stetson at the Convocation Center last Saturday evening, Gideon set a career-high in points with 22 while pulling down 16 rebounds in defeat at the hands of the Hatters.
For the Lady Owls to be successful Monday night, they will have to find a way to limit one of the most prolific 3-point shooting offenses in the NCAA. The Eagles (20-1, 14-1) have connected on 222 3-point shots this season, good for 11.1 makes per game. Due to reclassification rules, the Eagles are not allowed to qualify for NCAA rankings; however, that average would lead all of Division I if FGCU was indeed eligible.
The two teams met earlier this season, with KSU holding FGCU to what was then a season-low 57 points. Unfortunately for the Lady Owls, KSU could only put 45 points on the board in a loss to the Eagles. Gideon led the Lady Owls in scoring with 14 points, while tying for the team-high in rebounds.
