Game Notes

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will play its final true non-conference game of the season this Thursday at 4 p.m. as it takes on Alabama State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery, Ala.

The Lady Owls (5-7) have had a larger measure of success in non-conference play this season as opposed to last season.  After winning just three non-conference games last season, the Lady Owls have already won four with one game left to play.  KSU won just one road game last year, but has already won three in the first eight road games of the 2011-12 season.  KSU never crossed the 80-point barrier during 2010-11, but has already done so twice this year, winning 81-67 over Jacksonville State and 83-79 over UNC Asheville.

KSU currently has a trio of players averaging in double-figures in scoring, led by Taylor Mills and her 13.8 points per game.  Sametria Gideon is at 13.0 points per game, while Ashley Holliday is averaging 12.1 points per contest.  Elaina Gray is also averaging 10.7 points per game, but has only played in three games so far this season.

KSU last played Dec. 21 just 45 minutes away from Montgomery in nearby Troy, Ala., defeating Troy University, 66-57.  Holliday had a game-high 17 points for the Lady Owls, while Sametria Gideon added 16 and Lisa Capellan chipped in 10 points to go along with a career-high 14 rebounds for the second double-double of her career.  KSU shot 60 percent (15-of-25) from the field in the second half of the contest, finishing the night with 40 points in the paint to just 12 for the Trojans.

Alabama State (3-5) last played Dec. 19, defeating Savannah State, 47-45.  In that contest, the Hornets led, 45-39, with just under 10 minutes to go in the contest, but Savannah State proceeded to go on a 5-0 run over the next five minutes to pull within a point.  The Hornets were able to hold on, scoring their final basket on a steal and fast-break lay-up by Tamara Wadlington with 3:26 to go to seal the deal.

The two teams last played in Kennesaw Nov. 19, 2010, with the Lady Owls pulling out a, 70-67, victory over the visitors.  That is the only other meeting between the two teams in the history of the basketball programs.

Following Thursday's game, the Lady Owls will return home to ring in 2012 with a 4:45 p.m. contest Monday against Stetson.
