TROY, Ala. - Ashley Holliday had a game-high 17 points and Lisa Capellan had her second double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds as the Kennesaw State women's basketball team defeated Troy, 66-57, in Sartain Hall Wednesday night.

"I think we really matured with this game and the game against UNC Asheville," said KSU head coach Colby Tilley.  "We had a plan to go inside, get them in foul trouble and get easy shots, and it worked out for us."

The Lady Owls (5-7) found themselves in a tie at 53-all with just under five minutes to go, but went on a run to take the lead for good.  After Kristina Wells went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line to break the tie, the Lady Owls got a stop on the defensive end and Sametria Gideon made a lay-up to stretch the lead to three.  After another defensive stand, Gideon drained another basket in the paint to give KSU a five-point advantage.  As time ticked away, Holliday saved her biggest basket of the game for last, draining an open 3-pointer with 2:11 to go to cap the 8-0 run and put the game away.

KSU dominated inside, scoring 40 points in the paint to Troy's 12.  Much of that was due to KSU shooting 15-of-25 (60 percent) from the field in the second half of the contest.  Eight of KSU's 14 assists came during the second half as well.  The Lady Owls also took advantage of Troy's 19 turnovers to the tune of 26 points.

The Lady Owls led, 8-0, to start the game, but Troy came back with the next 10 points to take the first lead of the game.  KSU would answer back, taking a 14-10 lead off a 6-0 run.  With neither team shooting well in the opening half, the Lady Owls would settle for a, 25-23, lead at the break.

The game featured seven ties and 10 lead changes, with the final tie coming at 53-53.  Troy never led by more than two in the game.

Gideon joined Capellan and Holliday in double-figures with 16 points.  KSU out-rebounded Troy, 44-33, on the night, with Wells tying her career-best with nine.

KSU will return to action Dec. 29 when it faces Alabama State.  Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m.
