KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will look for back-to-back wins for the second time this season when it plays host to Texas State Monday night at the KSU Convocation Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Lady Owls (4-6) are coming off a gutty, 83-79, victory over UNC Asheville last Saturday night. Sametria Gideon came off the bench to score a career-high 25 points, leading four Lady Owls who scored in double-figures on the night. Ashley Holliday had nine points and set new career-best marks in rebounds and assists with seven of each. Elaina Gray, in her first action of the season, set new career-highs with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Part of the secret to KSU's success Saturday night was the play down low. KSU scored a season-high 50 points in the paint and grabbed 25 offensive rebounds. Six of the Lady Owls who played grabbed at least two offensive rebounds, led by Gideon's six.
Ball movement was also a big key to the victory over UNC Asheville. The Lady Owls had 21 assists on 37 made field goals in the win, setting new season-highs in both categories. While Holliday led the way with seven assists, Taylor Mills had five to go along with four each from Gray and Kristina Wells.
Wells has been big for the Lady Owls through the first 10 games of the season. The true freshman has started every contest, averaging 33.2 minutes per contest. The Douglasville, Ga., native is averaging 10.7 points per contest and has averaged 5.5 rebounds per game. She seemingly finds new ways to contribute as the season progresses, as she has nine assists over her last two contests while still scoring in double-figures in six of her 10 games played.
Texas State (4-4) is coming off a, 73-66, loss at the hands of Rice last Friday night on the road. The Bobcats are led in scoring by Diamond Ford, who is averaging an impressive 19.6 points per contest. While TSU has four wins on the season, only one (66-61 over Texas-Pan American) came against a Division I opponent. The other wins came against teams in Division III or the NAIA.
