Lady Owls Back in Action Monday

KSU travels to Chattanooga to face Mocs

12/12/2011 8:10:00 AM

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will head back to the court after a nine day break Monday evening when it takes on Chattanooga in the Lady Owls' third straight game in the state of Tennessee.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from McKenzie Arena, with live audio available via KSU All-Access.

Prior to the break for final exams, the Lady Owls (3-4) earned their first Atlantic Sun Conference victory of the season, 74-55, over Lipscomb in Nashville Dec. 3.  Redshirt freshman Taylor Mills scored a season-high 28 points for the Lady Owls in the victory, tallying 20 in the second half.  Mills would end up winning the A-Sun Newcomer of the Week award for her performance, joining freshman Kristina Wells as KSU's honorees this season.

Monday night's game will be the fifth game in a six-game road trip.  The Lady Owls went 0-3 to start the trip, with losses at nationally ranked Georgia Tech and North Carolina joining a loss to Belmont, 57-55, in the A-Sun opener.  Monday night's game also starts a very busy stretch for the Lady Owls, as KSU will play five games in nine days, culminating with a Dec. 21 contest at Troy.

Chattanooga (4-3) is also coming off an extended break for final exams.  In their last contest before the break, also taking place Dec. 3, the Lady Mocs defeated Elon on the road, 59-46.  The win improved Chattanooga to 2-0 in Southern Conference action on the season.  Chattanooga's three losses this season have come to Cincinnati (51-50), Idaho State (65-62), and No. 1 Baylor (91-31).

The two squads have only met twice before.  Chattanooga earned the win in the first-ever meeting between the schools, 76-61, in Chattanooga back in 2009.  The Lady Owls earned a gutty win last season over the Lady Mocs, winning 65-63 in overtime.  Tamasha Bolden sank a 12-foot jumper as the buzzer sounded to end regulation to tie the score, 51-51.  KSU would get a jumper from Angie Smith with 2.6 seconds remaining in the extra session to pull out the, 65-63, win.  Chattanooga's Whitney Hood scored a career-high 32 points in the loss.

Following Monday night's game, the Lady Owls will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Atlanta to face Georgia State.  Tipoff in that contest is set for 7 p.m. at the GSU Sports Arena.
