KSU strives for a 2-1 start to the season

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will shoot for its second straight victory on the young season as it plays host to Jacksonville State Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the KSU Convocation Center.

The Lady Owls (1-1) are coming off a, 68-48, win over Gardner-Webb last Tuesday night on the road.  Both Sametria Gideon and Lisa Capellan had double-doubles for the Lady Owls, with Gideon leading all scorers with 17 points.  KSU forced 22 Gardner-Webb turnovers in the contest and only turned the ball over 11 times themselves.  While Capellan and Gideon had double-doubles, five Lady Owls scored in double figures for KSU.

One of the early season bright spots for KSU has been the play of Kristina Wells.  The freshman is averaging 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds over the first two games.  Against GWU, Wells came up a rebound short of a double-double after also scoring 10 points.  She currently leads the squad with 11 offensive rebounds.

Jacksonville State (1-2) earned its first victory of the season Thursday night with an, 83-67, decision over LeMoyne-Owen.  Prior to that, JSU had dropped a pair of contests against Southeastern Conference foes Kentucky and Mississippi State. Against LeMoyne-Owen, Danielle Vaughn scored a career-best 26 points and added 12 rebounds for her ninth career double-double.

The two teams met last season in Alabama, with Jacksonville State defeating the Lady Owls, 77-56.  KSU trails the all-time series against JSU, 9-5.

ASun.TV will provide full coverage of the event.  The game is also slated to be available on KSU All-Access.
