KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will try for its first road win of the season tonight as it traves to take on Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The Lady Owls (0-1) dropped their season opener to Wofford, 66-62, last Friday at the KSU Convocation Center. KSU fell behind by double-digits early in the second half, but battled back to pull within three of the Terriers and actually outscored the visitors, 38-37, in the second half. Sametria Gideon led all scorers with 23 points and fell a rebound short of a double-double, while Taylor Mills chipped in nine points in the second half.
Gardner-Webb started the season with a, 109-44, loss to North Carolina in Chapel Hill. KiKi Smith and Catrina Green each had 10 points in the loss. Seven different players were on the court for the first time for GWU in the loss at UNC.
The Lady Owls and Gardner-Webb are former conference foes. When KSU joined the Atlantic Sun Conference, Gardner-Webb was a conference member. The two schools met four times during that time, with each school winning a pair of meetings. The teams have met seven times total, with GWU holding a 4-3 advantage. The Lady Owls have yet to win in Boiling Springs.
Last year, the Lady Owls fell, 59-48, to Gardner-Webb in Kennesaw. Gideon led the way for the Lady Owls with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
Following tonight's contest, the Lady Owls will return home for a Saturday night affair with Jacksonville State. Tipoff at the KSU Convocation Center is set for 7 p.m., with coverage available on
