Lady Owls Throttle Southern Poly in Exhibition

Mills leads the way for KSU in win over Cobb County rivals

KENNESAW, Ga. - Redshirt freshman Taylor Mills connected from long range while junior Sametria Gideon cleaned up in the paint as the Kennesaw State women's basketball team defeated Southern Poly, 73-43, in exhibition women's basketball action at the KSU Convocation Center Tuesday night.

"I wanted [the team] to come out and play hard for 40 minutes, and overally, I'm pleased with the effort," said KSU head women's basketball coach Colby Tilley.  "We wanted to step up the intensity on defense and work hard on the glass, and we did that really well tonight."

The Lady Owls led, 43-23, thanks in large poart to outside shooting.  Mills and Ashley Holliday each connected multiple times from beyond the 3-point line, as KSU shot 50 percent as a team from long range.  Southern Poly was held to just 6-of-28 shooting in the opening half by the stifling defense of the Lady Owls, with KSU scoring 17 points off of Southern Poly's 14 turnovers.

Seven different Lady Owls scored in the second half of action, but perhaps more impressively, six different players had at least two offensive rebounds.  Gideon and Holliday each had five rebounds, while Mills came away with four steals in the second stanza to lead all players.

Gideon finished the contest with 13 points to go with 10 boards.  Mills led all scorers with a game-high 20 points.  Chelcey Farrar chipped in 10 as well for the Black and Gold.

Tara Hay led Southern Poly with 19 points, with 11 of those coming from the charity stripe.  Dominque Smith had eight points and a team-best eight rebounds.

The Lady Owls will not see the court in game action again until the season opener.  That comes at the KSU Convocation Center Friday, Nov. 11, when Wofford visits for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
