KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team erased yet another 36-hole deficit Tuesday at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate to win a share of the title with Campbell University as the team posted a 299-287-295=881, +17 to remain perfect in their last two outings.
“Overall, it was a solid team performance,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “We came into this event with expectations of winning and this is a positive note to finish the fall season on. We have things we know we need to work on before the spring, but I was proud of how the team hung in there this week on a tough course and in tough conditions.”
The Black and Gold placed three individuals in the top-10 as both Atlantic Sun Conference First Team Honorees Matt Nagy and Jeff Karlsson placed tied for seventh, while freshman Jimmy Beck finished 10th.
Nagy posted a 54-hole score of 75-72-72=219, +3, whereas Karlsson recorded a 73-77-69=219, +3. Karlsson’s final round of 69, -3, which included seven birdies is the lowest of the season for the native of Sweden. Combined, the two seniors produced 24 total birdies.
A day after Beck recorded his first collegiate sub-70 round; the highly decorated first year player earned his first top-10 finish. Beck finished 10th after posting a 75-69-77=221, +5.
“We got a terrific showing out of three individuals this week,” Moseley said. “Anytime you finish with three individuals in the top-10 you are going to be a tough team to beat,” Moseley said.
Junior Ben Greene rounded out the scoring for the Owls as he finished tied for 24th, carding a 76-74-77=227, +11, while teammate Jonathan Klotz placed tied for 34th shooting a 78-72-79=229, +13.
In four events this fall the men captured two titles and finished in the top-10 three times to remain ranked No. 45 in the country. For updates on the spring season, you can follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsMensGolf.
