KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team looks to start its final home weekend of its 2011 season off strong as it hosts Stetson on Friday at 7 p.m. at KSU Soccer Stadium.
The Owls are coming off a disappointing weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. last weekend losing a pair of 1-0 contests to Jacksonville and North Florida. To show how consistent the KSU offense has been in recent years last weekend marked the first time that the Black and Gold were shutout in back-to-back losses in over three years.
Kennesaw State has worked hard in practice all week making some adjustments in preparation for Friday night’s match.
“A couple of big games for us this weekend,” head coach Rob King said. “We were obviously disappointed with the results in Florida last weekend. We've taken a hard look at things in practice this week and we have a fresh outlook going into Friday's game against Stetson. I will be looking forward to seeing our team respond.”
Whenever you talk about the KSU offense redshirt-freshman Katrina Frost always come to mind as she continues her excellent season. The Fayetteville, Ga. native currently leads all Atlantic Sun Conference players in three statistical categories. She leads in points with 20, goals with 10 and game-winning goals with three. Her 10 goals put her in a tie for 17th in the NCAA in total goals scored, and it is also tied for the tenth most goals scored by a player in a single season in Kennesaw State history.
As the Black and Gold look ahead to Friday the Hatters may be the perfect solution to get the KSU offense back on track. Stetson has struggled defensively giving up 28 goals so far this season which is the second-most goals allowed in the conference to USC Upstate who has let in 35 goals.
The Owls have an all-time record of 3-2-1 against Stetson. The Hatters have won two of the previous three meetings between the two teams. Kennesaw State and Stetson are also currently tied for the sixth, and final, tournament spot with only four matches remaining after Friday night.
Stetson (2-8-1, 1-2 A-Sun) is coming off a 1-0 loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday night. The Hatters return five starters from a team that went to the A-Sun semifinals last season with a record of 8-11-1. Stetson was picked to finish sixth in the A-Sun Preseason Poll, and it is led by Alexis Hermosa who has a team-high nine points on four goals and an assist.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink on Friday in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
