KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Jimmy Beck and his 69, -3 second round score has the Kennesaw State men’s golf team in second place at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, carding a 287, -1 in round two, and a 586, +10 total tournament score.
The Owls still trail Campbell (584, +8) by two strokes and lead host school Charleston Southern (589, +13). Bradley University is fourth at 590, +17, while Jacksonville State rounds out the top-five posting a 596, +20.
“Today was a very solid performance as the course played much easier allowing us to take advantage of scoring opportunities,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “Tomorrow we are going to go out and do our best and if we play to our potential we should come away with a win.”
Beck tied three other individuals for the lowest round of the evening on Monday with his performance, as the freshman is positioned to record his lowest collegiate finish as he sits in sixth with just 18-holes to play. This round marks the first time Beck has posted a round below 70.
“I am proud of Jimmy’s round today,” Moseley said. “This course sets up very well for him and he went out and played excellent. Anytime you get that kind of performance out of a freshman it feels like a bonus, but Jimmy isn’t your typical freshman so it came as no surprise.”
Senior Matt Nagy is tied for 11th after shooting a 72, E. A trio of Owls is tied for 22nd as junior Ben Greene, senior Jeff Karlsson and sophomore Jonathan Klotz all tallied a 36-hole score of 150, +5.
Charleston Southern’s Jacobo Pastor (-4) is the leader in the individual medalist race as he leads Andres Pumariega (-3) of George Washington University by one stroke and Vaita Guillaume (-2) of Campbell by two strokes.
The Owls will tee off for the final round on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. E.T. and will be paired with Campbell and Charleston Southern.
