KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team finished round one of the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate in second place out of 21 teams after posting a 299, +11 at the Turtle Point Golf Course.

“Overall I was extremely pleased with our effort and performance today,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “Relative to the start we got off to, we played excellent. It was difficult to score in the windy conditions, so I am proud of the way we grinded out our rounds, especially the guys that made mistakes early in their rounds.”

The Owls trail former Atlantic Sun Conference member Campbell by seven strokes as the Camels posted a 292, +4 to lead with 36-holes left to play. The Camels Vaita Guillaume holds the individual lead, posting a 69, -3.

Senior Jeff Karlsson is the low Owl after 18-holes as the native of Sweden is tied for eighth carding a 73, +1. Senior Matt Nagy and freshman Jimmy Beck are each tied for 17th place as they both turned in a 75, +3. Junior Ben Greene sits tied for 24th after posting a 76, +4, while sophomore Jonathan Klotz is tied for 40th shooting a 78, +6.

The Owls tee off for round two on Monday at 8:30 a.m. E.T. and will be paired with IUPUI and Minnesota. Live stats of the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate can be viewed at Golfstat.com. For complete round-by-round coverage of the Intercollegiate, you can follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsMensGolf.
