Individual Final Results
DULUTH, Ga. – After 54-holes of play at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic, the trio of Owls individuals were led by the play of Jimmy Beck as the freshman finished tied for 25th after posting a 73-73-77=223, +7 at the Berkeley Hills Country Club.
Beck recorded 12-sub-par holes as the Columbus native tallied 11 birdies and one eagle over three rounds. The finish marks the best performance in Beck’s young collegiate career as he recorded a 26th place finish at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate and a 56th place finish at the Carpet Capital Classic.
"Jimmy had a solid week overall," head coach Jay Moseley said. "He was very close to having a very high finish and this experience will be valuable for him later on down the road."
Sophomore Jonathan Klotz advanced up the leader board after round two with a 70, -2 final round to total a 232, +16 for the tournament. Klotz rolled in six birdies over his final 18-holes to finish 61st. Freshman Austin Vick placed tied for 70th after carding a 77-80-82=239, +23 in his second ever-collegiate tournament.
"Jonathan had a disappointing start in rounds one and two, but I was very proud of him to come out and play the way he did today in the final round," Moseley said. "He is still learning how to manage his game around the tricky courses we play, but once he sharpens his game and learns to play tough courses he will be a key contributor for this team."
In an attempt to provide some playing experience to his underclassmen the three individuals competed against a12-team, 75-players field that included a pair of top 50 squads in the latest Golfweek rankings, along with six teams ranked in the top 100 with the likes of Chattanooga, East Carolina, Furman, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Jacksonville, Kentucky, Minnesota, UNCG, North Florida, VCU, and Wofford.
"This week was an opportunity for our young players to grow, develop and get better," Moseley said. "The course setup was a typical college course that appears simple and then the pins are setup in very difficult and challenging positions. Our guys learned this week the importance of execution and we will continue to work on it from tee to green."
The team will be back in action Oct. 30 – Nov. 1 as the team travels to Kiawah Island, S.C., to compete in the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate. For updates on the Intercollegiate and all KSU men’s golf news, you can follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsMensGolf.
