Game Notes
KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will try for a pair of firsts Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m. when it hosts East Tennessee State. If the Lady Owls defeat ETSU, it will mark the first win in the Atlantic Sun Conference this season for KSU and the first win over ETSU in program history.
Monday night, Tamasha Bolden recorded her first double-double of the season as the Lady Owls fell to USC Upstate, 75-67. KSU cut Upstate's seven-point halftime lead down to one, 42-41, but the Spartans eventually pulled away, connecting on 24-of-25 at the free-throw line for the contest to deal KSU its third defeat in the A-Sun this season. Angie Smith led all Lady Owls in scoring with 18 points, going a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe in the contest.
ETSU (5-7, 2-1) pulled away in the second half for an 83-68 win over Mercer Monday night in Macon to earn its second A-Sun win of the campaign. Tara Davis and Destiny Mitchell each went for over 20 points in the contest, with Mitchell pulling down seven offensive rebounds (12 total) to complete a double-double.
In Monday night's game against the Spartans, the Lady Owls did a tremendous job of forcing turnovers, with the visitors committing 34 for the game. KSU had a direct impact on most of those turnovers, earning a season-high 22 steals. Smith and Brandi Jones each had five steals in the contest. Taking care of the basketball will be a key for the Lady Owls, as ETSU committed 23 turnovers against Mercer, with the Bears taking advantage for 20 points off turnovers.
The Lady Owls have yet to defeat ETSU in the all-time series against the teams, which dates back to the 2005-06 season. KSU's most narrow defeat came Dec. 18, 2008 at the KSU Convocation Center, when ETSU pulled out a, 79-78, win in overtime.
