Lady Owls face USC Upstate in first game of doubleheader

1/3/2011 11:20:42 AM

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will look to get its first Atlantic Sun Conference win of the season as it plays host to USC Upstate Monday afternoon at  5 p.m. at the KSU Convocation Center in the first game of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team.

The Lady Owls (3-7, 0-2) are coming off a, 77-56, loss at Jacksonville State last Tuesday.  Sametria Gideon led KSU in scoring with 17 and also added a game-high nine rebounds.  The Lady Owls had a season-high 16 assists in the loss, but also committed 23 turnovers as Jacksonville State had 16 steals.

USC Upstate (5-5, 2-0) has won two of its last three contests, including an A-Sun win over Campbell, 85-71.  Chelsea McMillan has four double-doubles on the year and is averaging a double-double with 15.4 points and 10.6 rebounds.

The two teams have a storied history dating back to when both schools were in the Peach Belt Conference.  Kennesaw State holds an, 18-5, advantage in the all-time series, but perhaps last season's contest at the KSU Convocation Center was the most memorable of all.  In that Feb. 6, 2010 game, Angie Smith's runner in the lane with time winding down gave Kennesaw State a, 69-68, win for the second consecutive one-point win for the Lady Owls in as many days, with the first coming in a, 52-51, win over Mercer.
