CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The men's tennis team looks to add to its trophy count from the fall, after taking home two titles a week ago at the USC Upstate Fall Classic. This weekend, the Owls will face off with several schools from the midwest as they travel to Austin Peay State University. The doubles team of Gokalp Ozdemir and Gianni Kubin look to lead the Owls after mowing down their competition a week ago to claim the "B" doubles crown at USC Upstate.
Friday will see four Owl duos take to the court for doubles, with Ozdemir and Kubin competing in the "A" flight for the first time this season, along with the pair of Simon Janik and Elliot Kahler. Ozdemir and Kubin open with Matyas Hilgert and Vance Davis of Eastern Illinois. Janik and Kahler received a first-round bye, and will play the winner of a matchup between opponents from Eastern Illinois and SIU-Edwardsville.
In the "B" doubles draw, the junior duo of Michael Langel and Tyler Mills takes to the court to face off with Morten Christensen and Devan Faulkenburg of SIU-Edwardsville. Also in the "B" doubles draw, Ryan Bouttell and Ryan Spencer will open against Joao Pagan and John Storie of the host Governors.
"Obviously, with Gokalp and Gianni doing so well a week ago, we have improved our doubles," indicated head coach T.J. Greggs. "We are looking forward to competing well this weekend."
The singles competition kicks off on Saturday, with Janik, Kahler and Kubin playing in the top flight for the Owls. Mills, Ozdemir and Spencer will compete in the "B" draw, and Langel and Bouttell take the court in the "C" draw.
