SIMPSONVILLE, Ky.- The Kennesaw State men’s golf team finished tied for fourth at the Cardinal Intercollegiate Sept.21. Posting a 281-290-292/863, the Owls finished just six strokes behind the winner Miami University.
The upper classmen led the way for the Black and Gold as junior Jeff Karlsson finished in second place, 70-72-69/211 and senior Chad Wilson finished third, 67-74-71/212, in individual competition. Wilson led all competitors in birdies made, (16) and par 5 scoring, -9, (4.25).
Tying for 38th place was Matt Nagy, who posted a 77-72-72/221, also had the lowest par 3 scoring for the tournament, -2, (2.83). Sophomore Ben Greene turned in a 72-72-80/224 to tie for 51st, while junior Peder Lunde-Hermansson posted a 72-80-80/232.
“We are all disappointed with the way we finished today’s round. However we took a lot of positives away from this week,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “Anytime you have two guys compete for an individual title and have two with top three finishes it is exciting.”
After finishing the first 36 holes in fourth place, five under par, the Owls concluded play only shaving one more stroke off the lead. The Black and Gold lead all schools in par 3 scoring at + 4, (3.07), ninth in both par 4 scoring, + 20, (4.13) and par 5 scoring -4, (4.93). Kennesaw accounted for 53 birdies and 162 pars in 54 holes.
“Coming down the stretch we simply played about as poorly as we could have. Although we didn’t come away with a win as we hoped for, we will build on this experience and continue to move forward,” Moseley said.
