ANN ARBOR, Mich.- In its first tournament of the season, the Kennesaw State women’s golf team finished 11th at the Wolverine Invitational this past weekend. Posting a three round score of 96- over par, (313-323-312) the Black and Gold were led by freshman Hayley Clinning, who finished tied for 32nd.
“We are obviously disappointed in our showing at this event,” Owls head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. “The team was slow on Saturday and did not adapt well to the wet and windy conditions. I know this group is capable of putting up low numbers.”
Clinning, finished her first collegiate event with a final score of 21-over par 234, (77-81-76), which included a final round 76 in which she made four birdies on the front nine.
“Hayley showed a level of maturity on the course that is exciting to see from a freshman,” Brinsmead said. “There were some positives throughout the weekend and we will continue to work of these as we look ahead.”
Senior Abby Fitzgerald placed tied for 42nd (80-81-76-237). Sophomore Molly Winnett finished tied for 48th (80-79-79- 238), and Ket Preamchuen placed tied for 54th (76-82-81-239). Freshman Lindsay Adams, who was also playing in her first collegiate finished tied for 81st (82-85-85- 252).
The Owls have three weeks to prepare before heading to Tulsa, Okla. to compete in their next event, the Dale Mcnamara Invitational on Oct. 11-13.
Florida International won the team title with a score of (896), followed by Iowa State (907) and Western Michigan University (919).
