KENNESAW, Ga. - The Owl men's tennis team was once again recognized for their efforts in the classroom as they repeated as an ITA All-Academic Team this season, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The team has now been recognized by the ITA in both seasons of the team's existence. This year, only 29 teams were recognized for achieving a 3.200 GPA or above, including A-Sun rivals Stetson and Belmont.
"I think it's fantastic that the Atlantic Sun Conference had three of the 29 teams on the list," commented head coach T.J. Greggs. "The Atlantic Sun continues to be a leader in producing scholar-athletes who embrace hard work as a cornerstone both on the court and in the classroom."
The Atlantic Sun Conference tied with the Ivy League and the Colonial Athletic Association for the most teams on the list with three apiece.
On an individual basis, four Owls were recognized for their achievements as well. First-time ITA All-Academic members Ryan Bouttell and Gokalp Ozdemir join teammates Simon Janik and Justin Suesserman, who were both also recognized a year ago. In total, the men's team has now had nine members recognized as individual All-Academic Team members in only two seasons as a program.
"The criteria for inclusion on this list is a 3.500 GPA," added Greggs. "For these young men to achieve that kind of a GPA, in addition to the rigors of both a fall and spring schedule for tennis, is truly amazing to me."
