KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team takes the field for a regular season match at KSU Soccer Stadium for the first time on Sunday evening when they take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at 5 p.m. Head coach Rob King’s squad will be looking to build on the momentum that they gained during their season-opening, 4-3, victory on Friday evening at College of Charleston.

Four Owls scored goals in the contest, including Senior midfielder Savannah Duet, who found the back of the net for the first time in her career in the 86th minute of the match to break a 3-3 and give the Owls the lead for good. She was joined by freshman Alma Gardarsdottir, and juniors Kristin Marietta and Brittany Vining in the goal column, continuing a trend from last season of diversified scoring, as the Owls had three or more players score goals in a match on five different occasions last season.

The Owls are 2-0 all-time against the Bulldogs, as the squads have met in Kennesaw the last two seasons, with the Black and Gold winning both matches, 8-0 in 2008 and 6-0 in 2009. Interestingly enough, this will the third different venue that the squad’s are facing one another at. They played at KSU Soccer Complex in 2008, the Owls’ former home, while inclement weather forced last year’s match to be moved to nearby Harrison High School.

Four out five Owls that scored against the Bulldogs last season are expected to be in action Sunday in Kristin Kranick, Katie Scott, Liz Blackburn and Jade Dempster. Forward Caitlin Dingle, who graduated last season, had two goals of her own in the victory.

Senior goalkeeper Staci Pugh was in the net for both victories, playing the entire game in 2008 while recording three saves and sharing the goalkeeping duties with sophomore Melissa Hutto in last year’s shutout.

The Bulldogs will be playing their second match in as many days on Sunday, as their scheduled match with Miami of Ohio on Friday was postponed due to weather and was not played until Saturday. They return 72 percent of their scoring from last season, including their two leading scorers, junior forward Celeste Roberts and sophomore defender Brittany Joseph.

The first 1,000 fans to arrive at the match on Sunday night will receive a commemorative first match ticket with a lanyard. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children in eighth grade or younger. Admission is free for all Kennesaw State students.

Live audio will be available on Owl Radio, Kennesaw State's on-campus student internet radio station.
