KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State Owls men’s golf standout J.P. Putnam added a final feather in his cap to close out his collegiate playing career, as he was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar this week by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Putnam, who spent three years as a part of the Owls program, was one of eight Atlantic Sun Conference players to receive the honor. In order to be eligible, a player must have a minimum stroke average of 76.0, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and must have played in a minimum of 70% of his team’s competitive rounds during the season.

"I am extremely proud of J.P. for being named an All-American Scholar.  This honor is the ultimate compliment to a student-athlete because it stands for so much beyond athletics,” said Owls head coach Jay Moseley, who just completed his first year at the helm of the program. “J.P. has been an excellent student, an accomplished golfer, and a respectable leader of this program and he could not be more deserving of this honor."

One of eight members of the men’s golf team to earn 2010 A-Sun All-Academic honors, Putnam was second on the squad this season with a 74.0 stroke average, and was the only Owl to compete in all 11 events that the team entered. He posted three top-10 finishes, including a tie for third at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate. The finance major closes out his career with 11 top-10 performances in 28 events and a 74.2 stroke average. He will take with him from his time at Kennesaw State many positive experiences and is proud to end his career on a high note.

“I am so honored to be named an All-American Scholar.  This award means a lot to me because of all the hard work I have done in the classroom and on the golf course,” said Putnam.  “I have learned so much from my experience at Kennesaw State, and my decision to be an Owl has added so much value to the person that I am today.  I will continue to serve Kennesaw State and give back to this program in the future."
