KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's baseball team will look to sweep the season series from No. 2-ranked Georgia Tech when the two teams meet Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta on the Georgia Tech campus.
The Owls (13-17) have won four of their last five contests, including a, 7-4, win over the Yellow Jackets last Tuesday in Kennesaw. In that contest, KSU used a five-run seventh inning to take the lead, then held on for dear life as the Yellow Jackets loaded the bases before closer J.B. Johnson came in to strike out the last two batters of the contest. Zak Griffith, who pitched 6.2 innings in that contest and allowed just three hits and two earned runs, will get the start again against the Yellow Jackets. The sophomore is 1-1 on the season with a 6.10 ERA.
Georgia Tech (25-3) took out their frustrations at the loss to the Owls with a battering of Atlantic Coast Conference brethren Duke over the weekend at Russ Chandler. The Yellow Jackets won that series by an aggregate score of 43-12, including a 25-4 pasting of the Blue Devils Saturday evening. Mark Pope (4-0, 4.62) is slated to get the start this evening for the Yellow Jackets.
The Owls have defeated three in-state schools this season and have the opportunity to defeat five. KSU previously defeated Georgia (11-1) and Georgia State (3-2) in addition to the win last week over the Yellow Jackets. At the end of April, the Owls will play their second game of the year against Georgia Southern before hosting a three-game set against Mercer.
If the Owls do not make up their game against Georgia that was canceled due to rain earlier this season, the squad is assured of finishing the regular season with a winning record against the "BCS" Conference schools. The Owls have gone 2-1 this season against the Southeastern Conference, earning wins over Georgia and Tennessee. KSU is currently 1-0 against the ACC going into Tuesday evening's game.
