STATESBORO, Ga. - Freshman Ronnie Freeman extended his hitting streak to 15 games as the Kennesaw State baseball team fell, 16-2, to Georgia Southern on Tuesday night at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The Owls (18-23) were foiled in their attempt to defeat their fourth Division I team from the state of Georgia this season. KSU had already defeated No. 2-ranked Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Georgia State this season. Earlier this season in Kennesaw, the Owls fell to Georgia Southern, 8-6.
KSU jumped on the board in the first inning when Ray Anderson scored on a wild pitch. The Eagles would respond with 11 runs over the next four innings, including a grand slam in the first by Victor Roache, that would salt the game away.
Freeman extended his hit streak with a single through the left side of the infield in the fourth inning. Freeman's streak is the longest this season for any KSU baseball player.
Ross Tendler's solo home run to lead off the fifth provided the only other run for the Owls on the day. For Tendler, the long ball was his fourth of the season, adding to his career-best total for a season.
The Eagles (23-19) would score a single run in the fifth, three runs in the sixth, and one run in the seventh to close the scoring. On the day, GSU's Eric Phillips would collect a team-high five RBIs, as he and Roache accounted for nine of the team's 15 RBIs on the day.
The Owls will be idle until Friday when Mercer visits Stillwell Stadium to begin a three game set. First pitch Friday evening is set for 6 p.m.
