KENNESAW, Ga. - The women's tennis team evened their overall season record at 10-10 today with a 6-1 victory over Lipscomb University at the KSU Tennis Complex. More importantly, the Owls (10-10, 2-6 A-Sun) picked up another critical A-Sun win, which puts them closer to a spot in the conference tournament.
In doubles, where the Owls have struggled this year, the team was able to put together enough to claim the point, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 spot. Leading the way for the Owls was the team of Agatha Palider and Iesha Holton, who cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles shortly before the top team of Ayano Tanaka and Vera Shkundina finished off an 8-5 victory over Bishop and Keevil of Lipscomb (4-15, 0-8 A-Sun).
"I was very happy that we finally played some solid doubles in the conference today," commented head Coach Brandon Padgett. "We needed this win today, and the girls came out and got the job done."
In singles, the Owls claimed five of the six singles matches in straight sets, including wins by Tess Lagerkvist and Agatha Palider at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, where they only lost two total games between them.
The Owls will continue their quest for one of the two remaining spots in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament tomorrow, with an important match against Belmont. The match is set to start at 10:00 a.m. at the KSU Tennis Complex. Admission is free and parking is available in the East Parking Deck.
