Preamchuen leads the way with 75 on first day

OXFORD, Miss. – Ket Preamchuen shot a three-over par 75 to put herself just five shots off of the individual lead, and the Kennesaw State Owls ended the first round in 15th place at the Rebel Intercollegiate, hosted by Ole Miss at Ole Miss Golf Course.

The Owls first round total of 24-over par 312 puts them 22 shots behind No. 32-ranked Tulane heading into Saturday. They finished Friday play in front of prominent teams such as Wisconsin, Mississippi State and Coastal Carolina.

For Preamchuen, who started on hole number 10 along with the rest of her teammates, it looked like day one may not go her way in the early going, as she capped off her first nine holes with a double-bogey six to go out in four-over par 40. She picked things up on her second nine, however, making two birdies against just one bogey to shoot one-under 35 and finish just five shots behind three players who shot two-under 70 for the overall individual lead.

Sophomore Patricia Arana wasn’t far behind her freshman teammate, firing a four-over 76. Senior Jordan Lazenby came in with 78, while freshman Molly Winnett rounded out the team scoring with an 83. Senior Abby Fitzgerald shot a 14-over par 86.

Owls head coach Rhyll Brinsmead is excited for the rest of tournament, and thinks her squad will be tough to beat the rest of the way.

“Although we struggled today, I am confident the team will play well tomorrow and move up the leaderboard.”
