ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Four out of five Owls shot 75 or lower on Tuesday, as the Kennesaw State women’s golf team finished strong to place fourth in the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational at Eagle Landing Golf Club in Orange Park, Fla.

Freshman Ket Preamchuen bounced back from consecutive rounds of 80 to begin the tournament, firing a one-over par 73 to lead the way on Tuesday for Rhyll Brinsmead’s squad, who finished with a +8 296 as a team to shoot the lowest team score of the day. Their 54-hole total of +43 907 was nine shots off of winner South Florida’s +34 898 performance.

Sophomore Patricia Arana had the lowest 54-hole score for the Owls, a +8 224 to finish tied for seventh, as she was consistent through the event, shooting scores of 78-72-74.

Finishing fourth in a 17-team field as strong as the one the Owls competed in this week is impressive enough, but it is equally encouraging that they were able to finish in front of all three of their Atlantic Sun Conference counterparts, defeating Stetson (tied for fifth), Florida Gulf Coast (seventh) and Jacksonville (14th).

“I’m really proud of how well the team finished today. Our performance really gave us a chance to have a solid finish,” Brinsmead said. “It was great to get wins over all of the Atlantic Sun schools that were present. Best of all, everyone on the team contributed this week.”

Arana’s seventh place finish was her second top ten performance of the season, and the first of any Owl in their two events thus far during their spring schedule.

Hailey Koschmann of Illinois took medalist honors in the event, leading the event wire-to-wire with rounds of 69-70-75 to finish at -2 214.

Senior Abby Fitzgerald and freshman Molly Winnett rounded out the team scoring for the Owls, with scores of 74 and 75, respectively, to solidify the team effort on Tuesday for Kennesaw State, who began the round tied for sixth.

With their fourth place finish, the Owls have now posted six top-ten performances in eight events.

The Owls take to the course once again on Monday, when travel out west to compete in the Jackrabbit Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State, in Las Vegas.
