ORANGE PARK, Fla. - Four of five Owls shot in the 70s, and the Kennesaw State women's golf team found themselves in third place after the first day of the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational at Eagle Landing Golf Club in Orange Park, Fla.

The Owls came in with a team score of +16 304. Senior Abbey Fitzgerald led the way for the Black and Gold, firing a one over-par 73 to put her in a tie for fourth overall in the 17-team, 96-player field. The score is lowest of the spring season for the Owls thus far.

Fellow senior Jordan Lazenby found herself in a tie for 13th after the first 18 holes of the 54 hole event, which will conclude on Tuesday, firing a +3 76. Molly Winnett and Patricia Arana rounded out the team scoring with a 77 and 78, respectively, while freshman Ket Preamchuen shot an 80 to put herself in the top-50 after the first day.

"The team finished really well today, we were able to maintain our place at the top of leader board because of our play during the last six holes," Owls head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We're looking forward to tomorrow's round so we can back up our play from today. Abby was extremely steady all day and i'm really proud of how she played."

The Owls, who came into the tournament ranked 69 nationally according to Golfstat, trail just Central Arkansas and South Florida, who shot scores of 299 and 303, respectively. Individually, Hailey Koschmann of Illinois fired a three-under par 69 to medal on day one.

The second round will be played on Monday, with Ket Preamchuen being the first KSU golfer to tee off, with her scheduled time of 9:20 a.m. You can follow the action at Eagle Landing all tournament long by clicking on the link at the top of the page.
