DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Owl men's tennis team halted a seven-match losing streak with a convincing win over Bethune-Cookman University today, downing the Wildcats 5-2 at the City Island Tennis Center.  The Owls were lead by a trio of sophomores at the top of the lineup, deciding the match in short fashion by sweeping the doubles and the top three singles spots.

In doubles, the Owls (6-12) picked up a quick victory at No. 3 doubles, as Gianni Kubin and Gokalp Ozdemir dominated from start to finish.  Shortly after, the doubles point was decided when Tyler Mills and Elliot Kahler downed Jeff Smallwood and Christian Cruz, 8-3, at the No. 2 spot.  Sophomores Simon Janik and Michael Langel started their perfect days off with the win at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, to complete the sweep.

The singles were played on three courts, and the first three Owls to take the court (Janik, Mills and Langel) all swept through their matches with ease, to put the match out of reach.  All three players snapped individual losing streaks of seven matches or more by dominating the WIldcats (5-11) in straight sets.

"I am so proud of the top of the lineup today," commented head coach T.J. Greggs.  "We have struggled at the top of the lineup this season, but we proved today that we can get it done when we come out with the right attitude and mindset."

The Wildcats struck back once the match was already decided by picking up wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles before freshman Elliot Kahler finished off a perfect day with a 6-1, 7-6(5) win over Smallwood at No. 6.

The Owls will return to the court next Friday when they return home to take on Lipscomb University, who sit one game ahead of the Owls in the fight for the final spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.  Last season, the Owls downed the Bison on the road, 4-3.
