Owls Head for Florida Gulf Coast

Top two teams from last year's A-Sun standings meet

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's baseball team will hit the road for an important three-game series this weekend, taking on Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Myers, Fla., this Friday and Saturday in an Atlantic Sun Conference series.

The Owls (9-14, 1-2) have dropped three straight, falling to Campbell in the finale of an A-Sun series last weekend before falling to UAB and Georgia State this past Tuesday and Wednesday.  The Owls struggled offensively against UAB, scoring just one run, but the Owls pushed nine runs across the plate in the loss to the Panthers.

Florida Gulf Coast (12-7, 5-1) scored eight runs in the second inning against #5 Florida in Gainesville, Fla., Tuesday night, but the Eagles would eventually fall, 13-8.  The Eagles are projected to throw starting pitchers Chris Sale, Richie Erath, and Pete Woodworth, who have combined for an ERA of 2.28 over 83 innings so far this season.

The two teams have met for a pair of A-Sun series in previous years, both times coming in Kennesaw.  Florida Gulf Coast won two of three games in each series for a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series.

The rivalry between the two schools has been born from the final standings in the A-Sun in each of the past two years.  In both seasons, FGCU came away with wins in two of the three games, going on to win the A-Sun regular season championship by four games in 2008 and 2.5 games in 2009.

All three games are scheduled to be available via webcast on ASun.TV.
