PRIMM, Nev. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team finished strong on Tuesday, as two players fired rounds of even-par 72 to propel the Owls to a fourth place finish at the Jackrabbit Invitational at Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nev.

Kennesaw State's final round of +8 296 gave them a tally of +43 907,  just 15 shots behind winner Oral Roberts, who shot a Tuesday-best +4 292 to finish at +28 892 and edge out Missouri State by two strokes.

The tournament, hosted by South Dakota State, featured 16 teams, and Rhyll Brinsmead's squad was able to remain towards the top of the field during both days of competition. Finishing the first day in sixth place, Brinsmead stressed that consistency and putting would be of primary importance for her team on Tuesday if they were to be successful.

Her team seemed to get the message, as all five Owls shot rounds in the 70s, led by freshman Ket Preamchuen and sophomore Patricia Arana, whose rounds of 72 were complemented with a 73 by senior Abby Fitzgerald and a pair of 79s from senior Jordan Lazenby and freshman Molly Winnett.

Preamchuen, Arana anf Fitzgerald all placed in the top-ten individually, with Preamchuen's +7 223 putting her in a tie for sixth. Arana and Fitzgerald would finish up with scores of +8 224 to finish tied for eighth.

Tuesday featured an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, which meant the entire field started at the same time on different holes around the golf course. Though it wasn't the last nine holes of her round, Arana, who started on hole 4, carded the best nine hole score of the tournament among her team, notching three birdies against just one bogey on holes 10 through 18 on Tuesday for a two-under par 34.

“We were able to finish really well today,” said Brinsmead. “This team is really close to winning a tournament, when we get off to a better start in round one we will get it done. To have three of our players finish in the top 10 was also very impressive.”

The Owls have two weeks to further sharpen their play before they head off to Oxford, Miss., for the Rebel Intercollegiate, which will be played April 2-4 at University Golf Club.
