DAYTON, Ohio - The Kennesaw State Owls dropped a 5-2 decision this afternoon to the Wright State Raiders at South Regency Tennis Center. The Owls got off to a slow start in doubles and were unable to recover.

The doubles matches swung the way of the Raiders (2-2) early, with quick victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots, by 8-1 and 8-2 counts. The No. 2 duo of Michael Langel and Simon Janik stretched their opponents to a tiebreaker, but eventually fell 8-7(5).

Singles got off to a promising start, as all of the first four matches on court were tight affairs, but the Owls (1-3) fell behind by a 3-0 margin after close straight-set losses by Tyler Mills and Gianni Kubin at the top 2 spots.

The Owls received a glimmer of hope after Michael Langel picked up the victory at No. 4 singles, winning in straight sets over Brian Dredge when Dredge retired one point from the match's completion, with Langel leading 7-5, 5-2, 40-love. Simon Janik led his match 7-5, 4-1 when the tide changed and his opponent was able to claw back and down him 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 for the deciding point. The Owls final point came when Elliot Kahler pulled out a third set victory over his opponent, 6-7(8), 6-4, 1-0(3).

"This was a disappointing match, for sure," lamented head coach T.J. Greggs. "I really felt like today was a match we could have won, but we simply played too tentatively on the big points today. When we had our chances, we failed to convert, and it cost us a win today."

The Owls will return to the court tomorrow at the Queen City Racquet Club in Cincinnati, when they take on the University of Dayton Flyers at 3:00 p.m.
