KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will look to snap a six-game losing skid this Thursday at 5 p.m. as it takes on Mercer at the KSU Convocation Center in an Atlantic Sun Conference contest.
The Lady Owls (5-16, 2-10) last won on Jan. 7 with a 75-65 defeat of Campbell. Their current losing streak started at the hands of Mercer, as the Bears defeated KSU 60-38 on regional television Jan. 14 in Macon, Ga. In that game, the Lady Owls were held to just 18 percent shooting from the field.
KSU has come close to ending the losing streak in its recent contests, but has fallen just short. Last Saturday, the Lady Owls were within four points of Florida Gulf Coast with 3:45 remaining in the contest before falling, 75-64. Then on Monday at the Convocation Center, Angie Smith's 3-point try at the buzzer was off line, giving Stetson a 54-51 victory over the Lady Owls.
While Angie Smith leads the team in scoring with 11.5 points per game, freshman Sametria Gideon has come on as a force on the glass for KSU. Gideon collected a career-best 18 rebounds in Monday's loss to Stetson. She leads all freshmen in the Atlantic Sun with 7.9 rebounds per game, ranking sixth among all players in that category.
Mercer (11-10, 8-4) is coming off a defeat at the hands of Florida Gulf Coast Monday afternoon in Macon. The Bears fell to FGCU, 67-62, despite a double-double from Courtney Ford. Four players scored in double figures in the contest for the Bears.
Following Thursday's game, the Lady Owls will wrap up their current, four-game homestand with a 5 p.m. contest Saturday afternoon against A-Sun foe USC Upstate.
