BUIES, CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell Camels took advantage of home court conditions Friday at the Nisbet Tennis Center and rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Kennesaw State men's tennis team. The Owls (5-6, 0-2 A-Sun) were unable to handle the Camels (5-3, 1-0 A-Sun) and the winds of more than 25 mph.
The Owls started promisingly in doubles, competing hard in all three matches before eventually falling at all three positions. The tightest match of the day was at No. 2 doubles, where Michael Langel and Simon Janik fell to the Camel duo of Larbi Lamzouri and Josep Baro, 8-6.
In singles, A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year Davy Sum took out Owl No. 1 Tyler Mills, 6-2, 6-2. All but one of Sum's teammates followed suit with victories of their own, with the lone victory of the day belonging to No. 5 Elliot Kahler, who picked up an exciting 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (8) victory over Dominik Kaniewski of Campbell. Also excelling today in singles despite falling in three set matches were Janik and Langel at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.
The Owls continue their difficult first half of the A-Sun schedule on Friday, March 5, when they travel to defending champion East Tennessee State University. First serve is scheduled for Noon.
