KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State tennis programs return to the courts on Friday when they travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on the Campbell Camels in an important Atlantic Sun Conference match-up for both teams.
The Lady Owls picked up a victory last year against Campbell on their way to a fifth-place finish in the A-Sun, a jump of six places from their 2008-09 season. The men were downed by Campbell in their A-Sun debut a year ago by a 5-2 count, with current Owls Ryan Bouttell and Michael Langel both picking up singles victories.
Both teams are currently playing their best tennis of the season, with the men winning four of five, and the women winning five of six. The Lady Owls (6-4) are led by current Atlantic Sun Player of the Week Vera Shkundina, who holds a 7-3 record at the No. 1 position.
The men's best record belongs to freshman Gokalp Ozdemir, who has dropped only one match this spring. The Owls (5-5) have also found recent success at the No. 1 doubles spot, with the new pairing of Tyler Mills and Elliot Kahler off to a 3-1 start.
The matches will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be held at the campus of Campbell University. It will be the conference opener for the Camels.
