MOBILE, Ala. – After shooting a 300 yesterday, Kennesaw State shot a 303 this afternoon and fell to 13th place after the second round of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
The Owls (300-303-603 +27), along with South Florida, posted the highest score of the second round as they fell 27 shots off the pace. Mississippi (291-285-576 E) went 3-under par for the day and overtook Vanderbilt for the second-round lead. Memphis (291-291-582 +6) also jumped ahead of the Commodores as the Tigers finished 3-over par for the second straight day.
Once again J.P. Putnam and Sam Curtis paced the Owls. Both players shot a 3-over par 75 on Monday, two strokes higher than the pairs first round scores. Putnam (73-75-148) got off to a slow start for the second straight day, as he was 5-over par on the front nine. Once again he recovered on the back nine as he made three birdies to go 2-under par, finishing the day tied for 28th place.
Curtis (73-73-148), who is also tied for 28th place, was on pace to match his 1-over par score from Sunday before he fell into trouble on the final hole as a double bogey pushed his score to 3-over, and nine strokes behind the leader, Kent Bulle (67-72-139) of Middle Tennessee State.
"We struggled from start to finish today,” said head coach Jay Moseley. “ We had a good game plan and simply did not execute. Obviously we know we can do better so we all expect to have our best day tomorrow."
Meanwhile, Peder Hermansson (78-77-155), Chad Wilson (86-78-164) and Ben Greene (76-76-152) all equaled or bettered their round scores. Wilson showed the biggest improvement as he sliced eight shots of yesterday’s score. Hermansson was a shot better, finishing the round with a 5-over par 77 while Greene shot a 4-over par 76 for the second day.
