KENNESAW, Ga. - Senior Tyler Stubblefield's ninth inning home run gave him his second RBI in as many days as the Kennesaw State baseball team fell, 11-2, to Liberty on Saturday afternoon at Stillwell Stadium in the second game of a three-game series.
The Owls (0-2) fell behind early as Liberty scored a pair of runs thanks to five consecutive walks. KSU cut the deficit in half when Sean McClurken tripled to left-center then scored on a balk.
Liberty (2-0) added two more in the second on an RBI single and a throwing error to make the score 4-1. In the fourth, the Flames took advantage of a KSU error to score five times and move ahead, 9-1. The score stayed the same until the eighth when a sacrifice fly brought home Liberty's 10th run of the game. in the ninth, the Flames completed the scoring on an RBI single by Matt Williams.
The Owls put one on the board on Stubblefield's first home run of the season in the bottom of the frame, but it was too little, too late as the Owls dropped their second straight contest to open the season.
Keegan Linza (1-0) earned the win for Liberty with six innings of two-hit work. Sean Fream (0-1) took the loss for KSU. Fream did not allow a hit, but walked seven of the 10 batters he faced.
The Owls will be back at Stillwell Stadium Sunday afternoon for the series finale with the Flames. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
