MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Head coach Brandon Padgett and the Owls women’s tennis team evened their season record at 3-3 with two convincing victories today in Alabama.

The Owls first took out the host Alabama State Hornets by a 7-0 count. The Owls were never tested by the Hornets (0-2), dominating the match from top to bottom. In total, the Owls lost only 4 games in the 9 matches contested.

Following that victory, the Owls then took on Alabama A&M at the same tennis center, defeating the Bulldogs by a 7-0 count as well. The Bulldogs (0-3) were without the services of one of their players, so the Owls received forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Each of the singles matches were completed in straight sets, with Iesha Holton having the closest contest of the day, fighting back from 5-2 down at the No. 2 spot to pull out a 7-6(3), 6-0 victory over fellow freshman Denise Cherry.

“I'm happy picking up two wins today. The girls played as well as could be expected in the very cold weather,” commented Padgett. “We are still searching for that first match where we play a full, healthy group of players, but it is always nice to see others step up and do what needs to be done to get the win.”

The Owls will have their home opener on Wednesday, February 17, when they take on the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Admission is free for all and the match will take place at the KSU Tennis Center. Visitor parking is available in the East Lot of the KSU campus.
