ATLANTA, Ga. – Kennesaw State once again got off to a slow start and could not overcome a 19-point first half deficit as the Lady Owls fell to Georgia Tech, 79-60, at Alexander Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday evening.

Angie Smith topped all scorers with 22 points, but the Lady Owls (1-2) had to fight to overcome a slow start that saw Georgia Tech (2-1) jump out to a 10-0 lead. Although Kennesaw State missed just one shot as Tech was building its lead, the Lady Owls did commit seven turnovers in the first three minutes.

“We got off to a slow start, which is getting to be the case often,” said head coach Colby Tilley. “But, I was very proud of how we regrouped and played towards the end of the first half and into the second half.”

After falling behind 31-12 with 7:25 left in the first half, the Lady Owls played Georgia Tech even the rest of the game and were able to trim the deficit to 10 points with under a minute left in the first stanza as Smith completed a three-point play after being fouled on a lay-up.

Despite being outrebounded by just six in the game, it was inside damage that was costly for the Black and Gold as the Yellow Jackets enjoyed a 36-16 advantage scoring in the paint. LaQuananisha Adams and Chelsea Regins combined for 27 points for Tech, as Georgia Tech’s size was too much for KSU to overcome.

Poor shooting again victimized Kennesaw State as they shot just 32.8 percent (20-for-61) from the field and 18.2 percent (4-for-22) from three-point range. The Yellow Jackets connected on 49 percent of their shots from the field, going 27-for-55 on the night.

Brandi Jones added 11 points while Tamasha Bolden nearly missed a double-double, scoring eight points while grabbing nine rebounds. Tyaunna Williams scored 12 points for Georgia Tech, who had 11 players score in the game.

The Lady Owls will play their home opener on Friday night when they host Alabama State at the KSU Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the game broadcast live on A-Sun.TV.
