SAPPHIRE, N.C. – After round one of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate the Kennesaw State men’s golf team sits in sixth place. The Owls finished the first 18-holes posting a 287, +3 score at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley. Leading the way for the Black and Gold is junior Matt Nagy. Nagy is currently tied for third amongst individuals turning in a score of 68, -3.
“We did a lot of this well today but unfortunately we struggled to finish off our rounds,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “We are playing well right now and if we play our best tomorrow we can definitely make a run at the title.”
Sophomore Ben Greene finished tied for eighth shooting a 70, -1. Freshmen Jonathan Klotz tied for 36th posting a 73, +1. Senior Chad Wilson finished tied for 62nd after shooting a 76, +5 and teammate freshmen Kelby Burton tied for 73rd posting a 77, +6.
Vanderbilt finished round one with the overall lead, six shots ahead of the field, with a collective team score of 277, -7. Wofford College was the only other school in the 18 team field to finish under par, ending the day in second place shooting a 283. Jacksonville posted a 284 to finish in third while Kentucky 285 and Gardner-Webb 286 rounded out the top five.
